Around my neighbourhood, but 1984

as Aciman but in France

I loved Andre Aciman ´s Call me by your name (2007). Loved the sequel to it Find me (2019) and this, Besson ´s Lie with me to me, resembled so much Aciman ´s themes, his coming of age- story, the eroticism and tenderness of first love, of love altogether, his writing all and all, but somehow, even to the clear resemblances, it did not bother me but made me love them both, Call me by your name and this just read Lie with me equally as much. So, there was a love stroy, in Aciman ´s, in Besson ´s books yet Aciman has his boys in Italy, Besson in France.

so, there are two boys, there is hidden love, there is hidden but bursting lust.

As I happen to live quite in the neighbours of this books regions. There is this boy, Philippe who lives his bourgeois life near Angouleme, Limoges and we get to go through Bergerac and Bordeaux. Philippe and Thomas, they share same school and they share love which ends sudden, rises up in the character of Thomas ´s son to whom Philippe stumbles (almost) decades later in Bordeaux. Philippe is a wrtier, a well know, celebrated one and Thomas, he had completely different experience in his life and it all, all the sadness, ends, oh so sadly.

But, as said, there was love, there was lust and the period of year 1984 in France came alive in Besson ´s writing and to cut this short, I just say that I love this book, everything in Besson ´´s writing, the feeling in it, the perceptions in the period, in the setting, the characters so well written and he did not make it all drag hundred of pages, he wrote it all as it shoud.

I loved this book so much, this sad book, this beautiful book.
