Miranda July: All fours. 2024.
Okey, this might be an unpopular opinion, and I totally get why All fours is a very liked (even loved) book, I do not join those loving it. For me, it got a bit boring. It has all trendy themes, loads of sex to be easier for marketing as a fierce empowerment manifestation, for topics in the media and it has a random cute plot, and yet… nope. It was just ok. I think I am too old for this book. Menopause or it´s effects or lectures of menopause (which were the most boring part in this book) did not appeal to me but the Part 1, it was ok, I was still into the concept of this book, the liberation, parenthood, relationships, firends, artistlife, womanhood, of humanity, of queers and all an all, July´s writing is easy, no lyrical metaphores, no second meaning between lines but just very easy reading. Maybe I just wasn ´t in the mood for this, it might be that, too but yeah, not a mastework for me.
the 45-year-old narratordecides to take a road trip from LA to New York. But just outside LA she has already interest herself with a much younger (married) man and she decides to stay in a crappy motel. She asks Daveys´s wife (this guys she fancies) to decorate the whole room (by 20 000 dollars! My god) and she stays there and kind of stalks the guy and let´s everyone around her, in her inner, believe that she is on her way to NY, is in NY, is in her way back from NY. And all that, she gathers comes of her symptoms of the menopause.
An oh, there was a lot of sex, a huge amout of sex. And art, performing art, and dancing and a lot of, If I understand this correctly, is an autobiographical.
Let it be so. I was too old for this message. Figured already all those in my life already, that what I think. That is why I did not really fall in love with this book, Liked it, yes, not loved.
