Sally Rooney: Intermezzo
This was a good read, I have to admit, since I had reservations when starting (soo far from the target group, I think) but Sally Rooney has her own unique style of writing (which I like!) and yes, this writing appealed to me. It was steady, peaceful, intellectual ( but from the charaters point of view, a bit shady).
I like her use of pronoun and the lack of it, the short sentences in between the storytelling, the pauses, the breath. I like Rooney´s rythm of the text, dialogue that could be happening in the real life.
First I thought the ending ws a bit sleezy, slightly too sweet to my taset, too fabricated to please the audience (the tv-series /movie?) and a bit too predictable and the interaction between the two brothers (at the end) too sugary, too. But oh well, nevertheless, it did not bother that much (knew that my life experiences - i.e. age- makes me a bit more cynical than the main target group readers). The themes of the book, the story and since my own father, too , has just recently died last year, this book gave me a chance to grif with peace, alongside with the brothers.
And even though the themes and the relations between the two brothers, girlfriend and parents seemed too fabricated, too neat to my taste/ sometimes a bit off or not reliable to me (and a bit too stereotyped and even shallow - could not really understand Sophia and was Naomi too a bit too constructrd?!?) (so, not a masterpiece to me in that sense) but still, a good read.
