something new, something old

This is how they advertise this book, this which Julian Barnes himself has said to be his last (even though I don ´t believe it, it seems these writers, authors, they may make a comeback as first announced they have had it, yet all of the sudden words start to flow, to even overflow and soon enough there is another book. - a Riitta Jalonen- story, after "ending " the writing career, now there is another book). Oh well. 

I bought this book because it was said to be his last. That was my motivation. To buy it (I admit). 

 I wanted to read something over my own intelligence, challenge myself, go off my comfort genres and in that sense this was a hit. 

On other end, it was not a great book for me. It was witty, it was intelligent, gave a lot to think about yet too many times when I got bored. 

It is a story of Julian Barnes (I think it is). It tells how a man get old with his years, how his body gets old and tired but his mind is still brilliant, still fresh. It tells a story of cancer, eventually killing this man. It tells a story of Jean and Stephen, their love story intertwined Julian ´s story. These two - Jean and Stephen - have a relationship in the late 1960´s and then again four decades later. They then get married, they then get dicorced. 

But mainly this book - for me - tells a story of remembering, of forgetting , about happiness about goodbyes. 

Worth reading this one, I have no regrets and the boredom - mainly just my own rushing mind.
