Anne Enright: The Wren, The Wren. 2024.Vitage

Bought this The wren, the wren because it was Shortlisted for Women ´s Prize Fiction, 2024. I like keeping up what is on the nominee list, winners interest bien sur, too.

This was my first Anne Enright. From the back cover I read the themes - women in three generation, - grandmother, single mother Carmel and her daughter Nell, around now-time. So, there is a Nell ´s grandfather, a poet, and his poems are incorporated in the book, found as poems in between the different pont- of views (which I like a lot, very easy structure for a reader - you always know who is the teller, no need to guess). The poet leaves his wife, leaves his two daughters, Carmel and Imelda and finally the mother dies, too and of course - there is a fracture between the daughters (money, inheritance, guilt, injustice - the basics). Carmel loves her daughter, her daughter feel suffocated and flees to London, felees to all over the world, writes, creates content to all kinds of social media influencers. Gets destroyed by a total dick-head boyfriend.

Very current, very easy to understand, even reflect.

Very nicely written the motive, The Wren, the poem, the tattoo, the bird in the text. That I liked a lot.

This didn ´t go deep enough for me, something I felt missing, a glass wall, very thin though. So, liked it not loved it but I would recommend this to very many readers. It has all themes, but it does not make you sink into sadness, nor it doesn ´t make you feel that you read just something way too light.
