on the road again

Patti Smith: Year of the Monkey. 2019.

Now I have been travelling with Patti Smith. (After reading oh so many books set in Ireland, I am now travelled from there, gone on a trip with Patti).

Patti Smith is two decades senior to me. Maybe now that we a re "closer" in age, I somehow get closer to her message, her voice. even her music but most interesting to me now, is her writing.

A year of the monkey is my first Patti Smith book (I do not count the one photo, one instagram caption for a book, yep, you can call me s snob).

I liked this! It has a sweet mix up pf dreams, fiction, facts, relationships, memoirs, forgettings and a whole lot of looking for coffee shop, a place for a good coffee.

It all starts 2015 when the year is ending and Patti has just finished a three evening concerts in Fillmore. Sandy, a dear friend for decades, falls in coma, Lenny, another friend fro decades, keeps Patti informed once Patti decides to go on wondering around, going from place to place, wherever she might find a car to hop along to. She talks with people living and dead, she shees new things, dreams, goes on in her days and nights, blending into each others.

In Febrauary starts the yer of a monkey and quire a many cahnges occur in her life. Her husband is already dead, now Sandy follows. Sam Shepard is no longer holding pen in his hands, there is new president and life flows on, different and with less people from the past and Patti Smith ´s writing, this dreamlike talk, wonderings, memoirs fascinated me and I will definitely read more of her now that I have found her.

Such a good book, such flow in her writing.
